Incoming iOS 16 beta

What is it?

iOS 16 public beta is officially here. You may be wondering what it is… Every year Apple releases a new update which will can be installed onto their customers’ devices via an update. Apple users are able to access the updates through the public beta portal available on their devices. Please be aware, updates don’t come without risk, there have been reports of users losing data and crashing apps with previous updates.

BUT, if you’re willing to take the risk, here’s the new features:

  • Customise your lock screen with new fonts, colors, and widgets
  • Major updates to Messages, including the ability to edit a text after you’ve sent it
  • Live Text for videos, and a multitude of other features and updates.
  • Stickers made from your images
  • Medication planners and reminders

Another key feature which stood out to us was the ‘Safety Check tool’ which will allow you to disconnect from people, apps and devices you no longer want to be connected to. You can review the people and apps that have access to your location, photos, calendar or contacts and revoke their permissions, there will even be an  “Emergency Reset” to clear everything as soon as possible.

Following in the form of updated safety features, a new lockdown mode that will be on offer is “an extreme, optional protection” for those who “believe you may be personally targeted by a highly sophisticated cyberattack.” Which is great news for all users.

Which devices will the update work on?

  • iPhone 13 (Mini, Pro, Pro Max)
  • iPhone 12 (Mini, Pro, Pro Max)
  • iPhone 11 (Pro, Max)
  • iPhone XS/XS Max
  • iPhone X/XR
  • iPhone 8/8 Plus
  • iPhone SE (second generation or later)

Will you be updating your device to gain these new features or will you be waiting to see what the world makes of them all first?
