Roaming charges are changing – be prepared for your holiday

On holiday having a nice time

We’re all in a constant state of envy of those posting Facebook posts of their gorgeous beach surroundings, anxiously waiting our turn. But something you may notice when you switch your phone on (immediately when you land) is that you no longer receive a text telling you there are no roaming charges.

Unfortunately Brexit meant that free roaming came to an end at the end of 2020. And since there has been a global pandemic, lots of us haven’t been able to escape overseas since before then. So, now the agreement that network operators had for free roaming largely cease to exist, and you can expect to be charged to use your phone abroad.

Networks we know to have reintroduced roaming charges include:

Vodafone

EE

Three

Sky Mobile

And more.

Networks that don’t currently charge additional roaming charges:

O2

BT Mobile

Virgin Mobile

Tesco Mobile

giffgaff

And more.

The typical pricing structure is different to what it used to be, so it’s no longer roam free whilst abroad, and you’re likely to be charged to use your tariff as normal, in another country. For example, it may cost you £2 a day on top of your usual bill to use your current contract. We would strongly encourage you to get in touch with us to find out what the roaming charges are on your contract before you travel, to save any unexpected costs.
