The 2025 switch off

2025 is calling and you need to get a solution in place before it’s too late! Traditional copper cables running underground in the UK will no longer be in operation within the next 3 years, and we’re here to ensure you’re ready for that change…

What is happening?
In 2025 BT has said it will switch off these traditional copper lines, and the country is working hard to ensure other solutions are in place ahead of then. The telecommunications network introduced the now outdated technology in the 1800s and it has been used by businesses as their primary method of transmitting phone calls and fax transmissions for many years.

BT’s goal moving forward is to ensure a safer, faster and more reliable connection which will sit on a cloud-based or VOIP network, which allows you to make calls over the internet.

Why is it happening?
Like with most things in the digital age, technology is moving forward, gaining better features and faster speeds along the way. The switch off will ensure we are keeping up with the times and adapting to newer and better technology. And in the long run swapping to newer technology will also be cheaper than your average landline bill. And we all need that during the cost of living crisis we are facing.

When will it happen?
It’s already started! The initial year of 2025 has been given as the target year in which the switch off is due to be complete, although services are already being pulled from certain areas in a way to gradually decrease usage.
